Fresh sod with moist soil root-zone runs <strong>1.5–2 lbs per square foot</strong> — a 500-piece order (1,000 sq ft) is roughly a ton and a half, or 15–20 pickup-bed trips if you foolishly self-haul. The calculator converts your area to total weight so delivery becomes the obviously correct choice.
Pallet weight is real too
A standard 100 sq ft pallet of sod weighs 1,500–3,000 lbs depending on moisture — forklift territory, not ramp territory. If delivery isn't offered, plan the pallet placement before the truck arrives: set pallets where the laying starts, not where the truck can reach.
